Abdul Rahim Assumes ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA) Presidency

The ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA) is pleased to announce that the
President of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), Abdul Rahim Abdul
Hamid, has assumed the presidency of the AFA with effect from 1 January 2010.
Rahim thanked the immediate past president of AFA, Pengiran Haji Moksin,
President of the Brunei Darussalam Institute of Certified Public Accountants for
his leadership and the positive changes he has brought to AFA during his term.
"MIA will build upon the foundations laid by Pengiran and leverage on our
strength especially in our involvement in the various international forums to
continue to champion AFA's interest and raise the awareness on AFA at the
international arena," Rahim added.
The Presidency of AFA is rotated among all its primary members for a period of 2
years, with the Deputy President assuming the President’s post at the end of the
2 year period. Together with Rahim, the other AFA office bearers assuming office
are Mr Kuy LIM of the Kampuchean Institute of Certified Public Accountants and
Auditors (KICPAA) as the new AFA Deputy President and Mr Rosli Abdullah of MIA
as the new AFA Secretary General.
Initially rotated based on an alphabetical order, the formula for rotation has
since been amended in the AFA Constitution in 2007 for the AFA President and
Deputy President's post to consist of one IFAC full member body representatives
and another from the associate or non IFAC member bodies.
