Asean Accountants Gather In Brunei For 16th AFA Conference

Bandar Seri Begawan - The 16th Asean Federation of Accountants (AFA) Conference set to be held in Brunei Darussalam will see accountants from all over the Asean region come together to share information and experiences with their regional counterparts.

The conference, which begins today, follows the launch of the online registration system for the 18" World Congress of Accountants 2010 (WCOA 2010) from November 17, 2009 to June 30, 2010, with early bird discounts of US$100.00 for all registrations.

The system, which was launched at the recent IFAC council meeting in Washington, DC, enables delegates from all corners of the globe to book their tickets to the World Congress online, together with their hotel accommodation, transportation as well as pre- and post-congress tours.

"As the momentum picks up, we welcome companies and organisations who are interested in being a part of WCOA 2010 as exhibitors or delegates or maybe even one of our sponsors," Abdul Rahim Abd Hamid, President of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), told reporters during a press conference yesterday.

"This is a unique opportunity to showcase your company to key decision makers and business owners who will be gathered together under one roof."

Pg Hj Moksin, the President of the AFA who is also President of the Brunei Darussalam Institute of Certified Public Accountants (BICPA) said, "We are delighted to see the WCOA team supporting the 16" Asean Federation of Accountants Conference here in Brunei Darussalam, and we will do our part to promote the World Congress to our delegates and the BICPA members."

The 18th World Congress of Accountants will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from November 8-11, 2010. Billed as the largest gathering of accountants in the world, this quadrennial event will see 6,000 delegates convene in Kuala Lumpur to discuss and debate the current issues facing the profession which will shape the financial community for the next decade.

Delegates coming to WCOA 2010 can expect to hear from some of the most prominent speakers in the financial and accounting arena, including standard setters, CEOs, and global thought leaders.

Some 130 speakers will share the platform over 37 sessions, expounding their thoughts on topics such as Accounting for Sustainability, Climate Change Reporting and Forensic Accounting in a Digital Environment.
