The 89th AFA Council Meeting, 27 Jan 2007, Bangkok, Thailand

The 89th AFA Council Meeting was held on 27 January 2007 in Bangkok, Thailand. The meeting was attended by representatives of its Primary Members from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Representatives of its Associate Members present were CPA Australia and ICAA.

Issues discussed at the meeting, among others were:

Approval to the Amendments of AFA Constitution and By-Laws
The meeting discussed the amendment in the AFA Constitution and By-Laws. Any further changes or amendments by the AFA Member Bodies shall be made in writing to the Secretary General and forwarded to all the members as well and will be further discussed in the next AFA Council Meeting.

Progress of the 2006-2007 AFA Strategic Plans

	PICPA and CPA Australia both have a programme in relation to accounting in the ASEAN region. Hence, PICPA has asked to coordinate with CPA Australia on this project. This matter would further discussed at the next AFA Council Meeting.
	MIA has circulated its survey questionnaire on the Identification of the Needs and Expectations of the AFA Member Bodies to all of AFA Primary Members but has only received feedback from four Member Bodies.
	In assisting AFA members in maintaining compliance with IFAC Standards Membership Obligations (SMOs), ICPAS had informed the Council that most of the AFA Member Bodies had completed Part 1 and 2 of the membership obligation and IFAC has opened an invitation to AFA members to maintain the compliance.

IFAC Developing Nations Committee Meeting
PICPA briefed the Council on the IFAC DNC Meeting which was held on 5-6 February 2007 in Manila, Philippines. The meeting was hosted by the Asian Development Bank.

The Developing Nations Committee (DNC) was established by the IFAC Board to support the accounting profession in aiding their participation in the international standard-setting process and their efforts at seeking resources from member bodies and other organisations in developed nations.

At the meeting, the DNC discussed its strategic plans and supporting activities for 2007 and 2008-2010.

The DNC also reviewed the programme of work of the standard setting bodies of IFAC and IASB SME Working Group to ensure that relevant issues pertaining to developing countries are presented where appropriate for their consideration.

The 90th AFA Council Meeting will be held on 1 – 2 June 2007 in Da Nang, Vietnam.
